Thursday August 15, 8:00pm at Wellfleet Congregational Church

"The superlatives always fly when guitarists start talking about multi-instrumentalist and guitar master John Jorgenson.  Anyone who’s had the good fortune to catch him on tour not only experience an awe-inspiring performance, but also get chance to discover an up tempo level of professionalism coupled with a gentleman who’s easy going and gracious."

The John Jorgenson Quintet is an American gypsy jazz band featuring guitarist John Jorgenson, a pioneer of the American gypsy jazz movement. The ensemble was originally formed in 2004 for the release of "Franco-American Swing". The current band members playing along with John Jorgenson are jazz violinist Jason Anick, rhythm guitarist Doug Martin, bassist Simon Planting, and percussionist Rick Reed. The quintet tours worldwide playing gypsy jazz.

The John Jorgenson Quintet features guitarist John Jorgenson, a founding member of the Desert Rose Band, the Hellecasters, and six-year member of Elton John's band. Artists ranging from Barbra Streisand to Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs have sought out Jorgenson's guitar work.  Recently, John Jorgenson was chosen to portray Django Reinhardt in the feature film Head in the Clouds.

At a John Jorgenson Quintet performance, audiences are amazed by John's dazzling guitar work as well as his mastery as a clarinet player and vocalist.  Whether playing his own accessible compositions or classic standards, John and his band make music that is equally romantic and ecstatic, played with virtuosity and soul.

Jorgenson sends notes and chords rippling out of his signature Gitane guitar, one modeled after Selmer-style instruments associated with Django.

In between introduced songs, he can tell jokes and come off like a humble guy having lots of fun and wanting an audience an arms-length away to share. You don’t often find that in people with such talent who have spent time in the pop kingdom.
